![]() ![]() If it were my first trip to New Orleans, I'd probably pick Hyatt Centric. I like Couvant better - mostly because it's quieter/more personal. Neither of them have lounges - so you're pretty much splitting between breakfast at Couvant the EJ) or Powdered Sugar the HC). Though you won't have much street/crowd noise, the walls /floors at Eliza Jane are amazingly thin and you will hear things from adjacent/upstairs/downstairs rooms. At least from a drunk-crowds-on-the-streets perspective. You will not be amazingly impressed with either - but they're a reasonable use of a Cat-4 cert.Ĭentric will be louder. They're both walkable to anything in that part of the city. But it's a pretty standard French Quarter hotel with a central pool in the middle - yet lacking the character/charm of other hotels of the same format in the quarter. The Centric is at the top/(bottom?) end of Bourbon street and will get you to the tourist area more quickly. The restaurant and bar have a bit more character, the rooms are super small - some without windows - and an upgrade to a Magazine street view room/suite will give you some light, but not any significant view. Maybe better chance at a suite at Centric.Įliza Jane is the nicer - "boutique"/"quirky" - hotel. I believe their restaurant is open for globalist breakfast again, and while I've never been to the Centric's restaurant, I'd guess Eliza Jane's is better based on reputation and prices. I think Eliza Jane is definitely the nicer hotel. Same goes for garden district, which has some great food options on and around Magazine St., but you'd take the streetcar or rideshare down that way rather than walking, anyway. There are also some good restaurant options in the central business district, which is where Eliza Jane is located, but not much nightlife. For more interesting nightlife, you'll probably find yourself on the far side of the French Quarter in Frenchmen St.'s live music bars. You'd have an easier time of stumbling back to your room at Centric from Bourbon. The hotels are a 10 minute walk from one another, and are basically the same distance to most of the better restaurants and nightlife in the French Quarter, unless getting pissed on crappy drinks on Bourbon St. ![]()
